Twice a year, Green River College’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Software Development onboards a cohort of new students. Today, we had the privilege of welcoming Cohort 15 to the program via a virtual advising and onboarding workshop.

Twenty seven students attended the workshop, which included activities around effective study habits and winter quarter class planning, as well as an AMA-style Q and A with SDEV instructors Ken Hang, Tina Ostrander, Josh Archer, Susan Uland, and Tyler Schrock.

At Green River College, we’re helping create a new, more diverse generation of software developers to fill jobs right here in Seattle-Tacoma. At the heart of that mission? Students like this.

Meet Phillip Ball, Cloud Automation Intern at Costco and BAS Software Development student at Green River College.

In his position with Costco IT’s Enterprise Automation and Orchestration team, Phillip is focused on onboarding teams to Terraform. He has also taken the initiative to jump in and help wherever he can.

“What I’ve enjoyed most is being able to help my team where they needed it and hearing from my manager that I bring energy that seems to liven up the rest of the team during meetings.”

An additional fun fact: Phillip’s brother, a Green River alum and a 2017 graduate from our Software Development BAS, also completed an internship with Costco and is now a full-time employee with Costco IT.

Congrats, Phillip!
